Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot and critically bleeding while assembly with her voters in a supermarket parking lot in Tucson, Ariz., by 22-year-old Pima Community College tyro Jared Loughner. Loughner killed 6 people and bleeding 12.

Giffords and her husband, former wanderer Mark Kelly, combined a Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC, “to inspire inaugurated officials to mount adult for solutions to forestall gun assault and strengthen obliged gun ownership.”

Long, D-La., was shot in a State Capitol in Baton Rouge and died dual days later. Long had formerly served as Louisiana’s administrator and had announced skeleton to run for president.

Rep. Jonathan Cilley — Feb. 24, 1838

Cilley, D-Maine, was shot and killed in a duel with his colleague, Rep. William Graves, Whig-Ky. Graves had challenged Cilley in a matter of personal honor. The duel resulted in Congress flitting an act prohibiting a giving or usurpation of hurdles within a District of Columbia.

Rep. Spencer Pettis — Aug. 28, 1831
