Interestingly, Cole won more Grammys in her lifetime than four of the five that were honored.
The 58th Grammy Awards did not give singer Natalie Cole a separate tribute and now is at the receiving end of backlash from celebrities and fans on Twitter.
David Bowie, Michael Jackson, BB Bing, Maurice White, Glenn Frey were the deserving star performers who got epic tributes at the Grammys this year, but forgetting all about Natalie Cole is a blunder too big.
Her sisters Timolin and Casey have since addressed the lack of remembrance, broadening the brief mention of her death as “forgettable”. Words can not express the outrage and utter disappointment at the disrespectful tribute, or lack thereof, to a legendary artist such as our sister. The slideshow ended with a clip from Natalie’s 1992 Grammy duet with her deceased father, Nat King Cole, as they performed the classic “Unforgettable” together digitally.
“It’s very bittersweet”, she told Page Six. “We will find solace in her legacy as well as her endless fans around the world”.
Other late artists received life musical tributes, including David Bowie, B.B. The Grammy Awards also recognized Céline Dion’s husband, manager and producer René Angélil, and “Titanic” film composer James Horner. The Unforgettable performances she had on the Grammys and over 4 decades of music should have been enough to bring out A list artists to tribute her…and no shade but I could suggest several numbers that could have been shorter- or not there at all -that could have been used to celebrate this wonderful artist.
Cole’s family didn’t offer that theory, but they did know ahead of the Grammy’s that she would be “banished” to the “In Memoriam” section, to which they asked “Where is the tribute to our sister?”
“When we came to the hospital and spent Christmas Eve with her it was a godsend”.
