He brooded, as Lincoln.

He seduced in The Unbearable Lightness of Being. And he murdered, in There Will Be Blood.

This week, Daniel Day-Lewis — a three-time Oscar winner, and exquisite film chameleon — announced he is timid from behaving during 60.

A matter expelled by his mouthpiece gave no explanation, observant this is a private decision, and that Day-Lewis will have no serve comment.

The actor has mostly taken extensive sabbaticals between films, though this time it’s apparently permanent.

So what will he be doing?

Well, we know that Day-Lewis has a series of low passions outward of acting. Woodworking for one, dating behind to when he was in boarding school.

Back then, he illusory a life creation seat and even practical for an tutelage with a cabinetmaker — before play drew him in.

Years later, he apprenticed with a master cobbler — training a qualification of shoe-making, in Florence.

I asked Day-Lewis about these pursuits in 2012, when we interviewed him about his purpose as Abraham Lincoln. He demurred, politely. As a private person, he said, he didn’t like to expel courtesy on his life off a screen.

But eventually, he non-stop adult — only a small bit.

“Yeah, I’m handy. You give me a apparatus belt, we know what to do with it,” Day-Lewis said.

He told me he fell in adore with humanities and crafts woodworking during his boarding propagandize — a posts and beams, benches and chairs.

“And it was something we felt immediately drawn towards and we detected that my hands were good, that we could make things and I’ve always desired to do that,” he said. “I only remember that my center son … overheard on a radio somebody saying, ‘Yeah, we consider he creates chairs in his gangling time,’ that he suspicion was one of a funniest things he ever listened and … he illusory me environment adult a emporium somewhere with ‘Dan’s Chairs’ as a shingle outside.”

But about shoe-making? Day-Lewis was mum.

I even played my “I’m a daughter of a sandal-maker” card.

No dice.

“I tell we what,” he said. “If we accommodate one of these days afterwards we can speak about it. I’d happily speak about it to we in private.”

Now, I’m picturing Daniel Day-Lewis in retirement — on his plantation in Ireland, cobbling away. Or maybe — only maybe — he’ll finally get to hang that shingle for “Dan’s Chairs.”
